Gerwyn Price's first European Tour title has handed a major boost to his PDC Grand Slam of Darts hopes.
A win over Simon Whitlock in the ended a barren spell for the Welshman. It also meant that Price confirmed a spot at the European Championships in Dortmund. The benefits to his PDC season go further than that, however. The Iceman is now likely to appear at the 2018 Grand Slam of Darts. 24 of the 32 competitors in Wolverhampton are provided by the PDC. This roster is made up of winners and runners-up from the major tournaments, plus winners in European Tour, Players Championship and UK Open Qualifier events. Price is in line to join fellow European Tour winners Ian White and Max Hopp at the Grand Slam. Fellow continental champions Michael van Gerwen, Mensur Suljovic and Jonny Clayton have already qualified by different means. The other players with confirmed spots are Rob Cross, Gary Anderson, Dimitri van den Bergh, Raymond van Barneveld, Peter Wright, Michael Smith and Josh Payne.

- I dont like individuals or crowds trying to put any player off when they are trying to check out, how anyone can think its okay for the crowd to whistle or shout as someone is throwing for a double is beyond me but it does seem to have become part and parcel of the modern game. If you want to see crowd passion... watch a match when German and Dutch players face off... that can be just as bad if not worse for crowd noises. - It happens. Remember, anyone who has watched German and Dutch players in matches - their respective countries will have seen/heard just as bad jeering (if not worse). - Was watching an old World Masters final the other day between Eric Bristow and John Lowe, the crowd respect for both players on throw was first class, not a sound. You can imagine now the idiots who were whistling on De Deckers throw proudly boasting about it on social media. I blame the PDC to a certain extent though doubt they really care as they win regardless of which player wins or loses.Mysstree16-11-2024
