Michael van Gerwen is the third man into the
World series final, defeating
Rob Cross 10-4. The Dutchman reeled off 5 consecutive legs to close out the match, averaging 108.83 in the process.
The contest, a repeat of last weekends
European Championship final, wasn't quite on the same level as last weeks encounter. However van Gerwen was once again in Imperious form and will remain as favourite for his third straight title in Glasgow.
The early legs went with throw, 2-2 after the first 4.The first break occurred just before the TV interval. van Gerwen checking out 36 for the advantage. The duo then traded holds until the next interval, Cross keeping himself within 2 legs of the World number 1.
van Gerwen broke for a second time in leg 11. Voltage was unable to complete a 112 finish and once again he was punished. After that van Gerwen completed the match with a further 3 consecutive legs.
MvG will now play the victor of Gurney vs Wright in the second semi-final later. In this form it would be tough to bet against Mighty Mike taking a third straight title, and his second in 2 weekends.
