Jamie Hughes has won the
BDO British Classic after defeating
Jim Williams in a nailbiting final which went to a deciding leg. The Tipton native has not won a BDO event since the Isle of Man Classic in March so it is a welcome return to the winners circle for the player ranked 4th in the BDO rankings.
Glen Durrant, Wayne Warren, Jeff Smith, Jim Williams,Kyle Mckinstry were some of the names through to the Last 16 as well as a player who missed out for the first time on getting to the PDC Euro Tour, Krzysztof Ratajski who lost out to eventual finalist Jim Williams but it was Hughes who prevailed in the final.
On the Womens' side it was
Aileen de Graaf who prevailed. Ranked 3rd in the BDO rankings, de Graaf added to her World Trophy, Polish and Belgium Open triumphs defeating World Championship runner up Corinne Hammond 5-4. de Graaf defeated 6 time event winner this year in Lorraine Winstanley 4-2 in her semi-final to reach that stage and Hammond whitewashed Deta Hedman 4-0 but de Graaf like on the men's side won in a decider.
Attention turns tomorrow to the BDO British Open before the World Masters next week all at the Spa in Bridlington.
