Jan Dekker has been playing well recently having a good run at the Players Championship Finals and now he is in round two after defeating Jelle Klaasen and he spoke after his win of his joy of making the event again as well as about balancing work and darts.
"I am very happy to be at the World Championship again, and I think I belong there", Dekker told Dartsnews.com after his win. "Last year I did not make it, this year and I even win my first game."
His victory at Alexandra Palace even resulted in the highest payday from Dekker's career. With his two semi-finals at Lakeside, he earned 11,000 and 15,000 pounds respectively. A second round on the
PDC World Championship now delivers at least £ 18,500.
For Dekker, who also works as a financial advisor in daily life, that is not yet a reason to stop his social work. 'Double Dekker' hopes to extend the choice between his dart career and his social career as long as possible.
"About 5-6 years ago I completed my study (HBO business economics, ed.) And decided that I did not just want to dart. With all due respect, the boys are doing great, but I also want to build something up. I think it is important to be able to participate in social work in the world. "
"I always want to combine a regular job with darts. Sometimes I have days in between that I work four times a week and another time that is two days because of the busy schedule we have today. At some point you have to choose something, but I try to postpone that choice as long as possible. "
