Christian Kist edged past Justin van Tergouw who was making his debut on the Euro Tour, Nathan Aspinall impressed defeating Nordic and Baltic qualifier Ulf Ceder and there was also wins for Mike de Decker and to round off the afternoon session of the Dutch Darts Masters.
Justin van Tergouw the Dutch sensation seen as the next MVG potentially faced Christian Kist in the first round in his first ever appearance on the Euro Tour and probably not his last. The young Dutchman lost in the deciding leg against the former Lakeside Champion with Kist recovering from 3-1 and 5-4 down to set up a tie against Kim Huybrechts and send JVT packing.
Following that it was the former World Youth runner up Nathan Aspinall taking on the Nordic and Baltic qualifier who had a great run a few months back in Sindelfingen, Ulf Ceder.
It was the Stockport native who came from 4-2 down to complete a 6-4 victory to overcome a tricky test potentially in the Finn. This sets up a clash with Benito van de Pas in the 2nd round tomorrow and goes into it having hit 5 180's and 95 average which meant he put in one of the top performances of the afternoon session.
In what could of been the game of the afternoon session, Richard North who has been very impressive this year against the young Belgian Mike de Decker.
It was the young Belgian who defeated the Mouth of the South by 6 legs to 3. The player who calls himself The Real Deal lived up to his moniker by hitting a 96 average with 6/9 on the doubles and a high checkout of 104 to set up a match against Alan Norris tomorrow that could prove to be a win for de Decker considering Norris' recent form and also him blowing hot and cold but that is for round 2.
To round off the afternoon session was the former World Championship finalist 'The Karate Kid' Kirk Shepherd who has actually played pretty well this year since regaining his tour card and the 'Maximiser' Max Hopp the former World Youth Champion who has been the opposite and will be hoping to get back into form with a win against Shepherd. It was the Englishman who got through defeating Hopp by 6 legs to 4 with 67% on the doubles as well as a 91 average to Hopp's 100 to set up a tie against 'The Wizard' Simon Whitlock in the second round.

- It happens. Remember, anyone who has watched German and Dutch players in matches - their respective countries will have seen/heard just as bad jeering (if not worse). - Was watching an old World Masters final the other day between Eric Bristow and John Lowe, the crowd respect for both players on throw was first class, not a sound. You can imagine now the idiots who were whistling on De Deckers throw proudly boasting about it on social media. I blame the PDC to a certain extent though doubt they really care as they win regardless of which player wins or loses.Mysstree16-11-2024
- @UndartedWaters I totally agree with your thoughts! I totally respect Kirk but in this instance I was disappointed with his lack of crowd control. I even turned to my husband and said "Could you imagine this happening if Russ Bray was the referee tonight? At least there would have been a crowd admonishment- Ladies and Gentleman please." - Many fans had a sour taste in their mouth by the end of this match. Mike was cruising to victory, playing beautiful darts, when the whistling started in earnest, particularly on his doubles. You could see in Mike's face that it was really affecting his concentration. The referee should have asked for order, just to show that the whistling is unacceptable, and Luke Littler could also have done his part to quieten down the crowd instead of "taking full advantage.:" I put that down to his age though. He needs some good advice on this from his management team and/or more seasoned players. It's got to be about who's best on the night, not who is being harassed by the crowd. Luke Littler played well to get back into the game and win, but it was a hollow victory. If he goes on to win the tournament, that triumph too will be tainted because of this match.
