Back on the Euro Tour after a few weeks away and it started off with a good first half of the afternoon session which included wins for Steve West who beat Ryan Searle, Jim Walker who shocked an in form Darren Webster, Robert Owen who smashed Jamie Bain and Martin Schindler who defeated Chris Quantock in a battle of youth.
The start of the session was between two UK Qualifiers in the form of Robert Owen and Jamie Bain, Bain has been in brilliant form lately especially on the Euro Tour and was heavily fancied for this match but it was the Welshman who came through with a destructive win with ease against the Scotsman winning 6-0 in a whitewash to start off proceedings in Maastricht including a top checkout of 121.
Following that there was a match between one of the brightest prospects on the PDC circuit who has shown some glimpses of brilliance since winning his card in Ryan Searle taking on Steve West who has had a hit or miss 12 months. This game was less a destructive win and was more of a close affair with West taking it 6-5 in a decider to steal it at the death with a 130 checkout with Searle waiting on 44 to win. 'Simply' recovered from being 5-3 down and the edge of defeat to take it and will face Daryl Gurney tomorrow in Round 2.
In a battle of the veterans it was Darren 'Demolition Man' Webster vs Jim 'The Phoenix' Walker with of course Darren being in great form after a few runs deep into PDC majors in the past few months while Walker has lost his tour card after 4 years of having one and so could be an outside bet in this match. The outside bet pulled off a shock by defeating Webster in a last leg decider to set up a clash with 'Snakebite' Peter Wright. In a back and forth contest with Walker being in front then getting pegged back, the Scotsman held his nerve after Webster missed two match darts at tops to take out 80 to win.
After the battle of the veterans, there was a battle of the young guns between Chris Quantock and Martin Schindler. It was the young German who was victorious beating Quanny 6-4 to end the first half of the afternoon session at the Dutch Darts Masters. Despite averaging less than his opponent averaging 88 to Quantock's 90, The Wall powered through in a back and forth match that included a 116 checkout from Schindler which sets up a match against Daryl Gurney in Round 2.
Robert Owen (85.89) 6-0 (84.82) Jamie Bain
Steve West (87.96) 6-5 (84.18) Ryan Searle
Jim Walker (90.49) 6-5 (88.27) Darren Webster
Martin Schindler (88.34) 6-4 (90.69) Chris Quantock
