Michael van Gerwen did just what he does and that is win major titles and after a few TV tournaments without being the champion, 'Mighty' heads into a period of 3 successive majors before the worlds which he will defend at the end of the year.
He defeated Rob Cross in the final who has capped off a brilliant year so far in his debut season on tour by going down in a valiant effort 11-7 which also gets him a spot in the Grand Slam and afterwards van Gerwen spoke about winning the title and how much it meant to him.
"I think it was a great final," said Van Gerwen, who averaged 108.91 in an imperious display in the final. "Rob kept putting me under pressure and I had to play well.
"I didn't realise my average in the final was so high but I'm really happy with that.
"I didn't play my best game in the semi-final but I'm really glad I won this title - it feels good for me and it means a lot to me. I always want to perform and I want to keep playing well."
