Michael van Gerwen is trying to defend his European Darts Open title on Sunday evening in Leverkusen.
The 29-year-old Dutchman managed to win the European Darts Open three times in his career, but never won it two years on the spin. After beating compatriot Jermaine Wattimena 6-0
in just nine minutes, Van Gerwen faces Gerwyn Price in the quarter-finals. 'The Iceman' saw off Krzysztof Ratajski on Sunday afternoon.
Van Gerwen or Price will meet James Wade or Mensur Suljovic in the semi-finals of the first
European Tour event. Wade booked a convincing victory over Dave Chisnall in the third round, while Suljovic claimed victory against Joe Cullen.
In the bottom half of the draw Justin Pipe is going to take on Rob Cross. The former world champion reeled off four impressive legs to beat Jonny Clayton after a 4-2 deficit. Pipe defeated Darren Webster 6-1 to book his place for the final session. Daryl Gurney and Peter Wright will battle in the last of four quarter-final matches.
