Arron Monk became the fifth player to earn a PDC Tour Card at UK Q-School in Wigan on Saturday.
2011 World Youth champion Monk, now 27, was soon joined by George Killington. The Andover ace lost his Tour Card at the end of 2015, but has finally earned it back after a gruelling day three of Q-School. After opening with wins over Callum Loose and Mark Pritchard, Monk beat Antony Darlow 5-4 to reach the last 32. There, he faced Scottish BDO star Cameron Menzies, and prevailed 5-3. Another 5-4 success against Matthew Edgar followed, before a 5-0 whitewash of Lewis Pride. Lee Evans stood between Monk and a return to the tour, but he brushed the 29-year-old builder aside to complete the dream win.
"I'm pretty relieved and happy. I've seen the opportunities in the game now and the levels of prize money going up, and I've seen some of the players that I was beating in my youth doing really well," said Monk. One of those players is Michael van Gerwen, who Monk beat in the World Youth final. Though he is not targeting matching van Gerwen's meteoric rise, Monk feels confident in his own chances.
"I knew I had to take it more seriously and I've concentrated more. It's a fresh start for me now - Arron Monk Mark Two; it's a different Arron with a different attitude.
"I'm more calm and taking the game much more seriously. I've not set any goals yet but I believe in myself and I'll back myself 100 percent."

- I dont like individuals or crowds trying to put any player off when they are trying to check out, how anyone can think its okay for the crowd to whistle or shout as someone is throwing for a double is beyond me but it does seem to have become part and parcel of the modern game. I no longer play now, darts is as good as dead at a local level round my way but when i did play many years ago, no matter how intense the rivalry you never shouted out or whistled when an opponent from the other team was throwing for a double.Mysstree17-11-2024

If you want to see crowd passion... watch a match when German and Dutch players face off... that can be just as bad if not worse for crowd noises.
