Van Gerwen could have had a whitewash against an out of sorts Cross but showed his brilliance still. It was a 101 average for ‘Mighty Mike’ with Cross in comparison averaging 93.
To start the match, Cross looked to start proceedings with the first leg but it didn’t start well with two missed at double eight. Van Gerwen doubles his lead with a 100 checkout and from there despite not being at his best he romped to a point.
This showed with multiple mid-range finishes as opposed to his usual ton plus checkouts. For ‘Voltage’ like alluded to he could have been whitewashed but when Van Gerwen stuttered he was allowed a way back in. Despite that though it was too little too late with Cross only able to claim two legs in the end.
