Michael van Gerwen booked an easy win in the third round of the European Darts Matchplay. The world number one dropped only one leg against Robert Thornton.

The 29-year-old Dutchman needed four legs to find his turbo, but at that moment he had a 3-1 lead already. Van Gerwen hit a 112 checkout to extend his lead, before he took the win with a 15-dart leg and a 14-dart leg.
Van Gerwen will face Ian White in the quarter-finals on Sunday evening. 'The Diamond' beat Darren Webster in the third round with 6-2. The previous meeting between 'MvG' and White was won by the Stoke ace (6-2).
