James Wade has been on the receiving end of a fair few 9-dart legs. But in 2008, the southpaw star delivered a knockout blow of his own. After winning his Grand Slam group, averaging 111.03 in a victory over Dennis Ovens, Wade took on Gary Anderson in the second round. At 6-5 up and against throw, Wade threw two 180s and a 141 finish to seal the perfect leg.
Anderson went on to win the tie 10-8, but Wade had made history by completing the first 9-darter in Grand Slam history. Wade has gone on to finish runner-up twice, in 2010 and 2016. Could the man from Aldershot go one better in 2017? And could there be another 9-darter?
Wade's celebration after hitting the all-important double 12 is well worth watching.
