Winmau World Masters 2017 Qualifying Race

We’re a month away from the 44^th Winmau World Masters and with competition heating up for the automatic qualifier places – 16 for the Men and 4 for the Women – we’re taking a look at who’s in and who’s out of the BDO ranking tables in the second of our ‘Race to the Winmau World Masters’ series.
Players have until September 11 to secure their automatic seeded place in the world’s longest running darts major, which takes place at The Bridlington Spa, September 25 to 27. The world’s best players will compete for five World Masters titles in Men’s, Ladies, Boys, Girls and Disability events.
Since our last update, players have competed in events including the Antwerp Open and Masters and the Swedish Open in Malmo. A decision not to take part in Sweden cost Glen Durrant his BDO number one spot as Mark McGeeney edged past him thanks to his ninth place finish at the event. Mark sits on 369 points, with Glen just behind on 367.
Former World Champion and Team Winmau player Scott Mitchell won the Malmo event, picking up 35 points to move up one place in the rankings to share third with Jamie Hughes (both on 321 points) who also elected not to take the trip.
The 30 points earned by runner-up Daryl Fitton is enough to take ‘The Dazzler’ into the top 16 on 238 points, moving up two places from 18^th. Also making his bid for Bridlington is former two-time World Champion and Team Winmau player, Scott Waites, who finished third in Malmo and moved up four places to 13^th in the rankings (243 points).
Heading in the wrong direction is Wales’ Jim Williams who, despite winning the Antwerp Open and finishing ninth in Malmo, slips out of the top 16 – dropping three places to 17^th(233 points). Joining him is Lithuanian star Darius Labanauskas who performed solidly in Sweden and Antwerp but still finds himself slipping four places to 19^th (225 points).
There is little change at the top of the BDO rankings in the Women’s race to the Winmau World Masters. Number one ranked player Deta Hedman consolidated her position by winning both the Open and Masters events in Antwerp and finishing third in Malmo. She now has 429 points and is 30 points ahead of second placed Aileen de Graaf who was runner-up in Sweden and also picked up points in Antwerp.
Victory in the Swedish Open means that Lorraine Winstanley (381 points) closes the gap on third-placed Lisa Ashton (383 points) but stays in fourth. Just behind them are Anastasia Dobromyslova (351 points), Corrine Hammond (342 points) and defending Winmau World Master, 10-time World Champion and Team Winmau player, Trina Gulliver MBE (341 points) in 5^th, 6^th and 7^th positions respectively.
