Luke Littler won the
World Matchplay this weekend, picking
up his 14th title in the last 20 months.
A run that has seen him
complete Triple Crown, meaning he picked up the World Championship, World Matchplay
and the Premier League, making him the 5th player to do so in
history. Littler’s three dart average of 107.24 was his highest in a
final this year, his second highest in the last 20 months and that average of
109.64 was back in February 2024 at the Players Championship.
Starting with Littler’s breakthrough at the 2024 PDC World
Championship in December 2023, he and world No.1
Luke Humphries have dominated
the UK Open,
Premier League Darts, European Tour events, World Matchplay, World
Grand Prix, and Grand Slam of Darts with near-perpetual presence.
Littler who is still only 18, captured the World
Championship in early January 2025 to become the youngest-ever PDC champion.
He then triumphed at the UK Open in Minehead in March with an
emphatic 11–2 final win over James Wade
In the Premier League, he set a record with six nightly
victories and topped the league with 45 points before reaching the finals in
May’s although he lost the Premier League final to Humphries. Humphries who was knocked out in the first round of the
Matchplay to Gian van Veen also accomplished the Triple crown this year, securing
it in his Premier League win over Littler.
FEBsData’s concise scoreboard of 20 finals in 20 months captures
a period of dominance by darting stars. That’s an average of one final per
month involving either Littler, Humphries, or both, across nearly every major
event on the 2024–2025 calendar.
With the Grand Slam and World Grand Prix still to come before
the end of the year, it is expected thar Littler’s streak of 20 finals is to
extend with him ranking favourite in most tournaments he partakes in.
