The European Tour is officially back for the first events of what is set to be another year with a truncated season on the events dubbed by many as mini majors and usually tell a lot going into the respective tournaments heading into not only the European Championship but also further along.
While countries such as Germany, Netherlands and Austria are usually top of the list when it comes to these events, it is the Hungarian Darts Trophy which kicks proceedings off on Friday afternoon.
A first visit to Hungary sees 47 players in action in Budapest from September 3-5 with every match as usual set to be broadcast on PDCTV.
Kicking off proceedings will be the Nordic and Baltic qualifier in Johan Engstrom who will have a busy month as he also appears in the Nordic Darts Masters in Copenhagen in the middle of September.
He will face up and coming Scot, William Borland with a tie with the returning Mensur Suljovic set for the player who comes through.
Geert Nentjes and Geert de Vos is a tie which on paper could be a standout with the former in good form off the Development Tour as of late, while the Belgian is a new Tour Card holder but is of course a familiar face to fans of BDO/WDF darts. Victor takes on number one seed, Joe Cullen on Saturday.
Speaking of familiar to BDO/WDF, Richard Veenstra will make his European Tour debut after foregoing a potential chance to play on the Challenge Tour which is also this weekend where he stands high up in the Order of Merit to play in Budapest. He will face Keegan Brown and could face Gerwyn Price in the second round.
Janos Vegso will again play at the World Cup of Darts like Engstrom later this month and will get some practice in on the stage as a Host Nation qualifier, he faces Joe Murnan.
Thomas Lovely came through the Associate Qualifier and faces Irish talent, Keane Barry. While to end the session off, Croatian ace 'The Biggest' Boris Krcmar takes on Czech prospect, Adam Gawlas before Lewy Williams facing Gabor Jagica finishes the session which begins at 12:00pm BST.
