Scott Campbell victorious over Luke Littler in Aberdeen.
A revered exhibition, the Granite City Masters took place in Aberdeen and was won by the outsider home hero who has been one to watch sometime on the secondary tours. But Scott Campbell defeated Luke Littler en route to glory.
Previously, Mark Webster (2016), Michael Smith (2017 and 2018), Daryl Gurney (2019), Jose de Sousa (2022), Luke Humphries (2023) and Raymond van Barneveld (2024) won this exhibition tournament.
One that is often pencilled down on the calendar before the PDC World Darts Championship, it featured a cast of Luke Littler, Ricky Evans, Daryl Gurney, Nathan Aspinall, Willie Borland and John Henderson as well as Scott Winder, Matt Goldie, Jamie Bain and Craig Quinn.
But it was Campbell who had to come through a qualifier to actually book his spot in the event that came through. He came through beating Craig Quinn in the show opener 3-1, while Winder saw off Goldie 3-2 before the main event began with Luke Littler taking down Willie Borland 4-2 in the opening match of the tournament.
John Henderson is always a hero in these parts and he faced the local boy Scott Campbell in the next match as it was the latter who only just missed out on a Tour Card at Q-School as well as competing on the MODUS Super Series and WDF World Cup this year who took the win 4-2.
Aspinall in a different colour shirt which was more Scottish themed with tartan and the blue and white got the crowd on his side but nearly lost to Scott Winder who lost narrowly 4-3.
Scott Campbell took down Luke Littler though in the big win of the night as he booked a final spot with a 117 checkout to win 4-3. While Ricky Evans saw off Nathan Aspinall 4-1 to seal his spot after he also beat Daryl Gurney. He was set to face Campbell as the showman faced the home hero and it was the Scot who prevailed. He won 5-2 in the final.
It is one of many exhibitions over the next few weeks with many of the top names taking their talents around the country in a bid to get match practice ahead of the World Championship. Luke Humphries, Rob Cross and Josh Rock for instance were in Cheltenham while Aspinall and Littler of course being fan favourites are in high demand. But it was the outsider who prevailed.
