Scott Williams has had a very impressive year in darts, the Englishman is one of very few players to win a title without a tour card. On this weeks 'Dart Show Podcast' he discussed his difficulties and successful moments this year
The 32 year old didn't get his tour card and even tried to go through Q school to get it, Williams reflected on this in the interview on the podcast.
“I was awful at Q school and Josh Rock taught me a lesson, he’s teaching everyone a lesson at the minute, but he taught me a lesson at Q school. But ye I wasn’t good and all of a sudden a week later something changed and it was completely different. I’ve managed to play all year minus three events, I’ve got plenty of money from ranking.”
Although things have worked out for him, Williams didn't always think it was going to be that easy.
“I didn’t expect it to be this good, I’ve been playing well but obviously when you go from the Challenge Tour to the Pro Tour there’s a big jump so you have to pull out you’re A game a little bit more.”
This year Williams' vast improvement has helped him produce success on the biggest stages.
“My games gone from a nice 85/88 average up to a 93/95 consistently which is really good and I’m really pleased about. I’m going to try keep that going and its just been a fantastic couple of years.”
Scott Williams explains in the interview one of the many reasons behind his huge improvement.
“Playing with better players and its no disrespect to players I’ve played over the last couple of years but as soon as you come on to the scene especially in this room, you know you’re playing some of the best in the world. As you’ve seen I’ve beat Jonny Clayton and Peter Wright on the stage… that gives you a massive boost and loads of confidence, that helps loads.”
After an impressive year Williams is certain that the hard work doesn't stop now and he knows how important it is for his aim to be going in the right direction.
“As soon as I won the back to back Challenge Tours this year I had two aims because if I get in the World Championship I’m probably going to get into the Players Championship finals and they was all I wanted. As soon as that happened I set up another goal and that was Grand Slam and I’ve done that, so all the goals from this year I’ve completed.”
“I’ll set some new goals ready for February."
