Chris Dobey displayed a strong statement in the
World Grand Prix yesterday when playing Luke Humphries, Dobey got himself a 2-0 win against the World No.11.
After his first round knockout at the Matchplay earlier in the year against Rob Cross, Dobey felt that he needed to come back stronger and do much better in the World Grand Prix. He referenced this in an interview after yesterdays match on 'Online Dart's TV'.
“ It was a
hard one to take but I was straight on the practice board, everybody was
doubting me saying ‘It would take ages for him to get over that.’”
“Once I
started putting the work in there was no way it was going to happen again
throwing away a lead like that. You’ve
just got to stay focused keep believing in yourself and keep throwing darts”
After a nervy start being two legs down Chris 'Hollywood' Dobey kept his calm to beat Humphries two sets to nil. After the shaky start Dobey mentioned that he didn't doubt himself when he looked in trouble.
“Anybody
can come back you’ve seen some of the best comebacks in probably this
competition. You never ever doubt yourself but I knew I had it in me to come
back. It was nice to get a comeback on Luke after he came back against me at
the Worlds”
“ He’s the most in form player from my point of view. Winning all those European tours
and being solid on the floor all year, yeah I’m delighted to ”
“Obviously
Luke wasn’t at his best he played well but he had some personal things [his baby is due anytime] on his
mind which is probably more important than darts. I wish Luke all the best with
his family”
Chris Dobey changed up his dart's before the World Grand Prix yesterday and it definitely worked in his favour the new barrel saw him secure a match against Adrian Lewis in the next round.
“I used a new
barrel tonight for the first time … on the big stage. I’m delighted with how it
went."
