A 5-1 scoreline perhaps didn't reflect the closeness of the tie in parts but it was victory for Peter Wright in his opening group game over Fallon Sherrock in a tie where 'Snakebite' was expecting a similar display from 'The Queen of the Palace' as last year at the Grand Slam of Darts.

"I started off brilliant with the first six darts and then it went downhill. Then I was chasing her, she was in control most of the legs. She let me off and I punished," said Wright to Online Darts.

"Fallon's a fantastic player we all know that, what she done last year and what she done against me last year. I was expecting the same. I'm using a new set of darts and I feel really good with them but it didn't quite go how I wanted."

Using a brand new set of darts which Wright previously teased as the set that will win him a third World title, he had a simple answer to his confidence on them. "All the rest of you don't bother turning up as I'm winning it."

But from confidence on winning at Ally Pally to not having that same view yet on this week, Wright believes that Price is very much still the man to beat in Wolverhampton.

"It's going to be very difficult to prize it from Gezzy's hands. He's the man to beat, a good performance this afternoon from him when he didn't even try. But he's in the other half so if I get to the final, I won't make the same mistakes I made last time."
