For the first time since winning the
World Darts Championship on debut,
Rob Cross is into the last eight at the Alexandra Palace. 'Voltage' was 4-0 too strong for Jonny Clayton on Saturday afternoon in the last sixteen.
"In fairness to Jonny, he never played his best today," says Cross in his post-match press conference, having lost just four legs throughout the match. "But no, I was ruthless today. I wanted to get that done as quick as I could, knowing Jonny, and how good he is. It's important to get it done when players aren't quite at their best gear so I was very impressed with myself today."
Cross will now take on Chris Dobey in the quarterfinals, a matchup with a rich history, including at last year's World Championship when Dobey ended Cross' hopes. "He's great you know," Cross praises. "What he's achieved this year, he had the Premier League and he was the right pick. He needed that and I'm going to have to be at my very best."
Cross is once again enjoying himself on stage and is targeting a Premier League appearance of his own in 2024. "I've improved as the year's gone on and I feel back to full strength now," says Cross."All these things that I'm saying, I'm going to have to back it up," he realises.
