Gary Anderson is the next player through to the Quarter-Finals of the World Matchplay after seeing off James Wade in a 11-8 win.
Anderson hit nine 180’s en route to seeing off ‘The Machine’ as he aims to add to his 2018 triumph later this week.
Wade produced a flourish to begin the tie smashing in a 148 checkout to make it 3-2 at the first interval.
‘The Flying Scotsman’ went ahead from there at 4-3 up but parity continued at 4-4. Both players struggled to hit doubles but Anderson edged ahead 5-4.
He opened up a two leg cushion at 6-4 after kicking off the leg with six perfect darts and after Wade missed more darts, Anderson hit a 74 checkout to make it 8-4.
Anderson went one away from there at 9-4. Wade though wasn’t done there hitting three in a row to go 9-7.
He wouldn’t go away and even when Anderson went one away at 10-7, he went 10-8 down keeping himself in proceedings.
This was all but a consolation though as Anderson claimed victory 11-8.
