Gary Anderson is through to the Last 16 at the 2020 PDC World Championship but had to survive a major scare en route against Ryan Searle.
Anderson was 3-1 down and potentially heading out of the tournament but produced when it mattered to edge out Ryan Searle 4-3 with a 99.8 average, five 180s; as well as a 170 checkout en route.
The first set was all Anderson as despite Searle forcing a decider, he couldn't use that opportunity to it's fullest as he squandered three set darts and as a result, Anderson claimed it to go 1-0 up.
Searle learnt his mistake though as he took the next set brilliantly winning it 3-1 including a 72 checkout on the bullseye to level the match up; this though was overshadowed slightly by Anderson pinning a 170 checkout.
He made it back to back sets as he pinned his eight maximum en route as well as a 104 checkout as it looked like 'Heavy Metal' was in the ascendancy. The upset was on the cards as he hit the front at 3-1 with his third consecutive set, it was now up to Anderson to produce when it truly mattered.
He did going one behind with two 84 checkouts as he took the next set 3-1 and made it 2-3 allowing Searle likely only one chance to close it out.
Searle looked like he was going to take that chance as he broke throw to make it 1-1 in the next set but he couldn't break back a second time and Anderson made it 6/8 legs running to force a deciding set.
From there it was plain sailing for Anderson as he went from potentially heading out to claiming a brilliant victory.
