Anderson led throughout but had to endure an Aspinall comeback before taking all the points with six 180’s and a 101 average throughout.
Anderson took an immediate break of throw to begin the tie and pinned an 11-darter to extend that lead with a hold of throw at 2-0. ‘The Flying Scotsman’ extended his advantage to 3-0 taking out 64 for a double break whilst also being on a 115 average.
Aspinall finally got off the mark at 3-1 but Anderson was simply not missing and extended his lead to 4-1 with another 11 darter. He did miss though in the requisite leg with two at doubles spurned and Aspinall capitalised to make it 4-2. Aspinall continued his charge back into proceedings with a 108 checkout making it 4-3 and broke again to restore parity.
Anderson responded by stopping the rot with a 76 checkout to move 5-4 ahead. A 110 checkout saw him go clear once more at 6-4. Aspinall cut the gap to 6-5 as a pivotal part of the match was to come in terms of guaranteed points.
Anderson secured himself at least a point at 7-5, however The Asp forced a last leg. It was to ill effect though as Anderson concluded a brilliant display taking the points in the opener.
