Dimitri van den Bergh has been eliminated in the first round of the 2024
Flanders Darts Trophy this Friday evening. 'The Dreammaker' had to acknowledge his superiority to 'Goldfinger'
Andrew Gilding.
It was another disappointing performance for Van den Bergh in his home country. At the four previous Euro Tours in Belgium, Van den Bergh never made it to the third round, and again he failed to do so.
Gilding dealt two hits early in the match by throwing out 124 and 98, giving the Englishman a 3-1 lead. Moments later, it was 5-1 with a 72 finish. Van den Bergh then grabbed one more leg before Gilding decided the match with a 76 checkout.
Peter Wright escaped elimination against Brendan Dolan. After leading 2-4, Wright fell behind 5-4 against his Northern Irish opponent. However, with a 74 checkout, Wright forced a final leg. Wright then concluded the match in fine fashion with a 12-darter.
Joe Cullen managed to win the final match of the first round. 'The Rockstar' fell behind 2-3 against his English compatriot
Callan Rydz, but still managed to win the match 6-4.
