Lisa Ashton was dominant in the opening stint of PDC Women’s Series action as she took both titles and ‘The Lancashire Rose’ was delighted to make a perfect start.
“It’s a cracking start for me so hopefully I can just keep going now,” she said to Chris Murphy for the PDC.
“The opportunities I’ve got so hopefully I can take the experience I’ve done on the ProTour and take it forward into every tournament I can play now.”
Playing Fallon in semi-finals
After playing Sherrock in most finals last year, they were mostly kept apart and Ashton was glad to get the better of their exchange when they faced off again in Event Two’s semi final.
“Me and Fallon always have good games. It could have gone either way but I’m happy just to get the win and get into the final and then get the win. I’m so happy. Great start for me.”
Different finalists and current standard
This led to Robyn Byrne being her final opponent after Rhian Griffiths also reached the first final and Ashton was glad to see new names and a rising standard.
“The Women’s game is lifting, it’s nice to see the youth when they’re coming through and the opportunities they’ve got and the standard is there. It makes it harder for us but it’s lovely to see so many ladies entering it.”
Women’s World Matchplay
One of the incentives of this year’s tournaments is the Women’s World Matchplay and for Ashton, it is a main aim especially being from nearby.
“It’s the biggest stage I’ve always wanted to play on. It’s on my home turf but I’m just happy, I’m going to try my best and hopefully qualify.”
