Normal service has resumed on the PDC Women’s Series with
Lisa Ashton claiming the opening tournament of the 2022 season defeating Rhian Griffiths 5-2 in the final.
Ashton won five titles last season and claimed her eighth overall in seeing off Griffiths who is making her debut on the Women’s Series this weekend and to good effect showing her class albeit with the four time World Champion easing through.
She missed three darts for the opening hold but Griffiths couldn’t pin 69 on double 20 allowing ‘The Lancashire Rose’ back to take the lead.
The pressure came early on from Ashton and despite missing three for a break initially, Griffiths couldn’t pin 60 and Ashton didn’t need another chance pinning it first time to go 2-0 up.
Double eight saw Ashton cruise to a 3-0 lead. But a poor leg saw Griffiths get a first leg on the board at 3-1 down. But Ashton was soon one away pinning double 10.
Griffiths pinned a 180 to end with a flourish and after Ashton missed double 16 for a 106 for the match, she returned for an 88 checkout to get another leg on the board.
Ashton missed more match darts and Griffiths previously hit a 114 to leave 36 but three darts to break went begging and ‘The Lancashire Rose’ took the title.
