Aspinall edges past Anderson in thriller to reach World Matchplay Quarter-Finals

Another match, another thriller at the World Matchplay as Nathan Aspinall becomes the latest player through to the Quarter-Finals reaching this point of the tournament for the first time in his career.

Aspinall edged past Gary Anderson 11-9 averaging 99 and hitting eight 180's en route. Superb showing from 'The Asp'.

Aspinall had a superb start to proceedings as he looked to run away with it at 3-0 up but Anderson reeled off four on the spin to go ahead as he clicked into gear.

But this was short lived as Aspinall restored parity and moved two clear at the interval at 6-4 up. On the return, he was 8-5 up as Anderson stopped the rot and looked to gain momentum.

This did happen short term at least with Anderson closing the gap to 8-7 but just as it looked like 'The Flying Scotsman' was closing in, a huge double nine to break saw Aspinall back on track and back towards the finishing line at 9-7.

Anderson had a response of his own with a 149 checkout to break back and reduce the deficit to one leg again only for Aspinall to go on the verge of victory with a phenomenal 117 checkout to make it 10-8.

He missed his first opportunity at claiming the match with a bull shot going begging off an 86 and Anderson kept himself alive at 10-9. Another tie break on the cards?

There wasn't as Aspinall left 96 after nine to restrict Anderson to only trying to get a shot at 161 which he couldn't and the Stockport ace returned to pin the finish first time for his place in the Quarter-Finals.
