Aspinall claimed the tie 8-6 in what was a hard fought contest between the pair as he goes into second place as it stands with Michael van Gerwen and Gary Anderson still around him to play.
Smith made a brilliant starting hitting a 180 and a 121 checkout to open up but back-to-back legs from Aspinall soon diminished that start as he went 2-1 in front.
A hold of throw despite a third 180 from Smith saw Aspinall extend his lead to 3-1. Aspinall from there in a tie of missed doubles broke throw to make it 4-3 and made it 5-3 with a hold.
But despite that, he couldn't streak away with it drawn level at 6-6. Who was going to claim a guaranteed point? Well Aspinall who pounced on two missed darts at doubles from Smith to go 7-6 up before sealing the deal from there.
