Michael van Gerwen qualified for the final of the 2025 PDC World Darts Championship on Thursday night, a feat he has already achieved seven times in his career. On Friday, an exciting duel awaits him against teenage phenomenon Luke Littler, who also made it to the final last year. Despite the talent of his opponent, Van Gerwen exudes self-confidence and self-belief heading into the final.
The clash between the experienced three-time world champion Van Gerwen and the youthful Littler is seen as a dream final. With a convincing victory over Chris Dobey in the semifinals, Van Gerwen proved to be in top form. He took that conviction to the press conference, where he addressed the media after the match.

When NOS asked him who he thinks is the favorite to win the World Championship title, the Dutchman seized the moment to show his confidence. "Who do you think yourself? Don't ask those silly questions, right? Of course I'm the favorite," he sounded confident. "Purely in terms of quality, what I've shown in recent years. And not only that, also the past matches."
Still, Van Gerwen knows that despite some strong matches, he has nothing in hand yet. "We are still too far away from the title, from that trophy. You have to stay with yourself, keep your head up and make sure you don't make any mistakes."
Earlier in the tournament, Van Gerwen referred to his upcoming opponent as the biggest disappointment of the World Darts Championship. That was even before Littler dealt with Ryan Joyce (4-3) in a high-stakes match, before the teenage sensation scored big wins over Nathan Aspinall (5-2) and Stephen Bunting (6-1) with averages well above 100.
Nevertheless, the Dutchman is not yet impressed with Littler's performance. "The last matches he played okay, but that's also easy talking. Of course that (quarterfinal against Nathan Aspinall, ed.) was his best match because he had absolutely no opposition. Aspinall... I think my little son would have beat him, he didn't throw shit."
