The PDC players are currently in Australia for the
Australian Darts Masters, the second World Series event on Australian soil. Where players would normally use downtime to prepare for matches or explore the area, Wade chose something a touch more adventurous. Together with his colleagues, he boarded a boat to go fishing.
The group featured several familiar names from the international circuit. Alongside Wade, Bunting, Rock, Smith, and Clayton were on board. The mood looked excellent, and for once the rivalry was not settled with three darts at a board, but with rods and lines on the water.
Various photos from the day appeared on social media. They showed the players enjoyed a fruitful trip. Several fish were held up proudly for the camera. The usual darts gear made way for rods, bait, and catches, and it seems the group gets along just as well away from the oche.
Success for Clayton’s son too
A nice touch was the presence of
Jonny Clayton’s son. He joined the group on the water and also managed to land a fish. In one photo, he posed visibly proud with his catch. He certainly held his own alongside the experienced PDC players who accompanied him on the boat.
For the players, an outing like this is a good way to step back from the pressures of the professional circuit. The World Series regularly takes them to far-flung destinations, leaving space between tournaments to take in the surroundings. With its famous harbour and expansive waters, Sydney was perfect for that.
Serious business on the agenda
Wade and his colleagues will soon be back to business. The
Australian Darts Masters is staged in Wollongong, where the PDC’s top names face Australian representatives. Wade, Bunting, Rock, Smith, and Clayton will aim to add more success. Dutch hopes rest with Gian van Veen.
Clayton in particular is travelling through Australia in good spirits. The Welshman recently won the New Zealand Darts Masters. He beat Gerwyn Price 8-4 in the final, underlining the strong form he is showing in the World Series of Darts in Oceania.
Wade’s fishing trip with colleagues has at least delivered some relaxed images ahead of the tournament. Whether the catch of the day proves bigger than what the players can haul in on stage at the Australian Darts Masters will become clear in the coming days. One thing is certain: in Sydney, Wade gave his peers a day where rivalry made room for fun, relaxation, and a generous dose of fishing.
