Nathan Aspinall has cemented his ambitions with a 7-4 victory over Gerwyn Price to open up his Premier League restart and mean that he will definitely be in the next phase.
Aspinall punished a below-par Price who hit 21 percent on his doubles (4/19) to add a potentially important haul of points. He hit a 98.7 average and 53% on the doubles; as he makes it four wins out of seven so far.
There was nothing to split the players in the first six legs; with both players gaining a break but not able to consolidate that advantage as it was locked in at 3-3.
Aspinall went 4-3 up but a break soon followed which showed Price's issue throughout the tie and that was on the doubles; as he missed two at double 12.
This allowed 'The Asp' to strike a big blow by going 5-3 up and it was soon at least a point for the Stockport ace as three missed darts at double 20 handed him the initiative to make it five legs running and lead 6-3.
Price stopped the rot but it was little more than a consolation as Aspinall claimed victory 7-4 in the end in a potentially important two points to his playoff ambitions.
