Nathan Aspinall is set to take on Michael Smith in the final of the US Darts Masters continuing his dream year and making the final on his World Series debut after edging out Peter Wright in a last leg decider.
Aspinall hit a 104 average en route as well as five 180's in a polished performance from 'The Asp'. He has also now made consecutive TV finals as a result with victory at the UK Open in March.
Wright started the better of the two and cleaned up to go 2-0 up but he missed three darts at tops to go 3-0 up which let Aspinall into proceedings. He duly obliged and made it 2-2 from there. He then crashed in a 161 checkout to level up at 3-3 later on with both players averaging towards the 100 mark. 'Snakebite' though from there established a two leg lead against 'The Asp' at 5-3 with him seemingly bound for the final.
Aspinall though came back with another blockbuster shot in the form of a 126 to ask questions of Wright and bring himself back into contention. He continued to be behind but the turning point came when he found parity at 6-6 and from there though, Wright went one away from the final after punishing a missed dart at the bull from Aspinall. A fourth 180 saw Aspinall tie it up though and from there he saw off 'Snakebite' in a deciding leg to cap off a thriller.
