Nathan Aspinall will contest his second major final in the past three major tournaments after seeing off Luke Humphries 16-12 at the
Grand Slam of Darts.
Aspinall will aim to seal his first major title since the UK Open in 2019 against Michael Smith who is aiming for his very first in a ninth major final.
It continues a resurgent year for 'The Asp' who to start it didn't know if he'd potentially throw a dart again after an injury to his elbow but has since returned to his best.
To start the game, Aspinall had the early impetus with a 130 checkout to stop Humphries in his tracks at 3-2 up and he kept edging ahead until 5-4 wiring double 14 for a 148 and Humphries broke to lead for the first time.
Humphries gained a two leg lead but Aspinall came back to make it 8-7. The former levelled and hit a 145 to regain the lead but heading into the break, they could not be split at 10-10 with a break needed.
That came at 13-11 with Aspinall hitting 90 for a two leg buffer and he consolidated with a 124 checkout at 14-11. Humphries kept his hopes alive but Aspinall continued to be clinical and went one away with an 88 checkout before a stunning 121 checkout on the bull to seal it.
