Aspinall surges into European Championship semi-finals with thrilling win over Noppert

Danny Noppert's latest run in a PDC major is over with Nathan Aspinall accounting for the in-form Dutchman in a thrilling tie to make it into the European Championship semi-finals.
Aspinall took it all the way to a deciding leg holding his nerve to win 10-9 with a 103.5 average and 11 maximums in a high quality affair.
It was 'The Freeze' who took control early on defying four 180's and a 101 average from Aspinall to lead 3-2. From there though, 'The Asp' took control winning four legs from five to move two clear at 6-4 up.
But it was time for a Noppert turnaround as he produced three legs in succession including two breaks of throw to get in front at 7-6. His charge was stopped momentarily but he still lead 8-7.
Aspinall found a pivotal break at 8-8 in the context of the match and Noppert could only force the decider from there with Aspinall taking out 52 with Noppert on 85 looking to pounce.

- I dont like individuals or crowds trying to put any player off when they are trying to check out, how anyone can think its okay for the crowd to whistle or shout as someone is throwing for a double is beyond me but it does seem to have become part and parcel of the modern game. If you want to see crowd passion... watch a match when German and Dutch players face off... that can be just as bad if not worse for crowd noises. - It happens. Remember, anyone who has watched German and Dutch players in matches - their respective countries will have seen/heard just as bad jeering (if not worse). - Was watching an old World Masters final the other day between Eric Bristow and John Lowe, the crowd respect for both players on throw was first class, not a sound. You can imagine now the idiots who were whistling on De Deckers throw proudly boasting about it on social media. I blame the PDC to a certain extent though doubt they really care as they win regardless of which player wins or loses.Mysstree16-11-2024
