Michael van Gerwen facing
Gerwyn Price in a Quarter-Final showdown at the 2021
European Championship was highly touted and it delivered in a thrilling tie which the 'Green Machine' just claimed.
It was a 10-8 triumph for Van Gerwen with both players averaging 107 as he came back from 4-1 down to book his place in the final session where he will be the favourite for his first ranking major of the year.
It was an epic start as Price raced into a 4-1 lead but the scoreline didn't tell the story with 'The Iceman' hitting a 120 average and 4/5 on the doubles while MVG hit 110.
When they returned, Price hit a 180 to pressure on MVG's throw but Van Gerwen returned for 99 using two double 20's. He went six darts into a nine-darter and took the break from there as he looked for parity.
A 170 set up from Price left it on 31 in case Van Gerwen missed but he hit double 20 to make it 4-4.
A 177 from Van Gerwen was there in case Price missed but he let out a roar when taking out a 58 checkout to make it 5-4 as he stopped the rot.
Van Gerwen headed into the break though at 5-5 hitting double 10 with a hold.
Price returned with a ten-darter on double 20 to make it 6-5 and continued to lead at 7-6 with a 126 checkout but Van Gerwen flipped it to take the lead with a sixth 180 and a 130 checkout.
He missed three darts at double 20 and Price finished 82 for 8-8 using bull, double 16 to break. He blinked though with two darts missed from an 89 checkout and Van Gerwen hit back to make it 9-8.
He went one away as a result and secured the tie with a 72 checkout on double 12.
