Nathan Aspinall defied a fightback from
Luke Humphries to progress to his second Premier League Night final in a row in Exeter. Aspinall managed to hold it together to check out 160 after Humphries had mini-resurgence in the middle of the match.
Humphries missed a dart at bull to break throw in the first leg, then surrendered his own throw to see Aspinall double his lead. 'Cool Hand' was able to break back with a classy 12-darter to half the deficit.
He did miss three clear darts at double to level the match up, giving Aspinall more breathing room again. It felt like a big moment and the next leg suggested so as the Matchplay champ took out a stunning 144, making it four out of six on the doubles.
Another 12-darter from 'The Asp' and it was comfortable, despite his opponent averaging over 100. With this level of performance, Humphries deserved better and managed to claw two legs back - surviving a match dart in the process.
The World No. 1 then really threatened a comeback with a 96 checkout in a 11-darter, having the darts to force a decider, and pinning double eight to do so. However, Aspinall saved the best until last, taking out 160 to survive a scare and play either Rob Cross or Luke Littler in the final.
