Australia are the next country through to the Quarter-Finals at the
World Cup of Darts after seeing off Poland in a clean sweep to begin the evening session on Saturday night.
Simon Whitlock was first off and he took on Krzysztof Ratajski and survived one match dart before hitting a clutch double 10 last dart to move through 4-3 in a thrilling start to their tie.
The opening legs were shared by the duo before Whitlock took out 117 to go 2-1 up. Ratajski hit double 16 from there to make it 2-2 but despite Whitlock hitting double eight to go one away, he could only pressure in the requisite leg with a 180 and Ratajski came back to make it 3-3 before the aforementioned thrilling finish.
That put the first point on the board for the Australian duo and so it was up to
Damon Heta to finish it off or it would go to a doubles match.
He made the best possible start against Krzysztof Kciuk hitting back-to-back 180's and double 20 for a 10-darter to begin proceedings.
A 13-darter followed as he doubled his lead and was firing in a brilliant 130 average at that point. Kciuk got off the mark to stop the brilliance momentarily but it proved a mere consolation as Heta made it 2-0 and booked their place in the Quarter-Finals.
