What is the format of the Australian Darts Masters?

The format of the Australian Darts Masters follows other World Series events. It is the best of 11 legs in the opening round so a first to six.
It then continues with the same in the Quarter-Finals before it is then increased to best of 13 legs in the Semi-Finals so first to 7.
Then the final goes to first to eight legs for instance Gerwyn Price defeated Luke Littler last year 8-1 to win the title under the current format. This means the potential of shocks is only really earlier in the tournament.
Round Number of Legs
First Round Best of 11 legs
Quarter‑Finals Best of 11 legs
Semi‑Finals Best of 13 legs
Final Best of 15 legs

History of the Australian Darts Masters

After being under previous guises with multiple visits to different parts of Australia, the PDC settled on one tournament called the Australian Darts Masters. It took place between 9-10 August 2024 in Wollongong.
Gerwyn Price emerged the victor defeating Luke Littler 8-1 in the final. Of those who are involved this year, only Littler, Humphries, Price and Heta remain.
Dimitri van den Bergh, Peter Wright, Michael Smith, Rob Cross are all not involved either not in the World Series at all this year or in Cross's case only select events. Michael van Gerwen and Nathan Aspinall also declined their invites last year both for family reasons.

Predictions

Samuel Gill, Head Editor of DartsNews.com sees both newbies staking a claim on their Aussie debut.
Josh Rock and Mike de Decker amid Michael van Gerwen and Nathan Aspinall deciding against playing is a masterstroke in my opinion.
Rock has emerged as being box office in the past few years and amid some turbulence which partly it seems was getting used to his home life and also was the pressure squeezed onto him prior to Luke Littler turning the corner at high speed, he has emerged better than ever.
Mike de Decker hasn't been in great form ironically since he ended up snubbing an invite to play in Holland at the turn of the year but being World Grand Prix champion often has to account for something and he has got that.
I expect both to perform as well as Damon Heta which in reality is a feel good story with the Heat going from winning Brisbane as a local star to a top 10 player and a fully fledged representative invited by right.
Luke Humphries and Luke Littler no doubt will figure. But Gerwyn Price for me is the other name to watch. He has been quietly superb this year and will continue that mission onto Australia.

Josh Rock to win on debut?
Mats Leering, writer for DartsNieuws.com sees Gerwyn Price heading Down Under to prove a point.
In the form Gerwyn Price has been showing recently, he is, as far as I'm concerned, the big favorite at the moment. Josh Rock is also playing well right now and will want to make an impression on his debut Down Under. Names like Luke Littler and Luke Humphries are always highly rated by the bookies ahead of a tournament, and that will be the case this time as well. Furthermore, I wouldn’t be surprised if Damon Heta goes far on home soil.

Nicolas Gayer, Editor for DartsNews.DE sees The Heat rising to the top. I’m expecting a bit of a home-soil fairytale at the Australian Darts Masters. It was on the World Series stage in Australia back in 2019 where it all began for Damon Heta – when he sensationally defeated Rob Cross in the final and claimed the title as a local representative. I believe returning to this stage, and to the place where he experienced one of the defining moments of his career, will push the 37-year-old to deliver something special once again.
I also expect Josh Rock to make the most of his World Series debut and prove straight away that he’s more than ready to compete with an elite eight-man line-up of PDC stars – with a not-so-subtle nudge towards a potential Premier League call-up.
That being said, I don’t expect too many fireworks from the rest of the local representatives this year. To be honest, Haupai Puha is the only one I can realistically see pulling off a surprise win. Since earning his Tour Card, he’s consistently demonstrated solid form on the Pro Tour and could be capable of an upset.

Kieran Wood, Writer for DartsNews.com sees Luke Littler returning to form in Wollongong. Luke Littler looks well placed to pick up another World Series title. He’s handled the travel well this year and, against a mixed field like this, the young superstar will take some stopping. Luke Humphries is another clear contender. He tends to thrive in short-format events like this.
Damon Heta may be playing as a PDC representative rather than a local this time, but the home crowd will still be behind him. A return to Australian soil could bring out his best again – especially with memories of his 2019 triumph still fresh.
Mike De Decker could be a sleeper pick. His game over the last couple of years, and he'll no doubt be keen to make the most of his chance to make an impression on the World Series stage.
Favourites:
*** Luke Littler
** Luke Humphries, Damon Heta
* Mike De Decker, Gerwyn Price
Pieter Verbeek, Editor for DartsNieuws.com was short and sweet with his prediction.
It's difficult to put down a prediction with some events to be completed ahead, but for now I'm backing Humphries to claim the title in Australia, with Gerwyn Price and Luke Littler being his biggest rivals in Down Under.

Field Australian Darts Masters

The field will also include Josh Rock and Mike de Decker who will make their debuts on the World Series in this first of two tournaments.
Rock recently won the World Cup of Darts and has been touted as a future Premier League player by certain junctures of the darting community. While De Decker in the eyes of some was harshly left out of the Premier League line-up.
Both have got their opportunities with Michael van Gerwen deciding against traveling once again to Australia and New Zealand. Nathan Aspinall also won't be involved.
