Whilst
Robert Thornton may have fell off the PDC Pro Tour at the end of 2020, the Scot is still keeping himself active in the World Seniors Darts Tour and via the exhibition circuit.
Earlier this week, 'The Thorn' joined Fallon Sherrock,
Jonny Clayton and
Gerwyn Price at Mecca Bingo in Swansea for one such exhibition. Although things didn't go exactly as planned in the board, Sherrock and Thornton also played a match against each other, this match proved a 5-2 triumph for the 'Queen of the Palace', the former UK Open and World Grand Prix winner nevertheless seemed in good spirits talking to Polly James on stage.
"I've known Gezzy and Jonny for years and they're great lads," Thornton says of his exhibition companions in a video posted by the official social media pages of
MODUS. "They're top blokes and if you get them away from the dart board they're two of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. On the dartboard though, they're like bloody animals! But I've done it myself, you go at it on the dartboard and then afterwards you're great."
With the Welsh and the Scottish also sharing Celtic blood and a lot of similarities in their culture, the trip to Swansea is also one welcomed by Thornton. "They're loud and proud here just like they're loud and proud in Scotland. If you're Celtic, everyone is loud and proud," he explains. ''I love the atmosphere here. It doesn't matter who's playing, the crowd are absolutely fantastic and I really can't say a bad word."
As for when we can see Thornton on our TV screens again, after missing out on World Seniors Darts Championship glory earlier this year, Thornton will return to WSDT action in early October when he takes on the legendary John Part in the first round of the World Seniors Matchplay in York.
Thornton is a two time World Seniors champion
