On the eve of the 2024
World Cup of Darts, the chances of defending champion Wales have been dealt a significant blow.
Gerwyn Price has sadly been forced to withdraw from the event.
As announced by the PDC's
official website, Price will no longer be able to represent the Welsh at the 2024 World Cup of Darts, with
Jim Williams being drafted in as the former world champion's replacement. "I'm massively disappointed that I'm having to miss the World Cup and I always love representing Wales," said Price himself. "I wish Jonny and Jim Williams the best of luck this weekend and hopefully they can bring back the title again!"
Price and Clayton have twice previously managed to lift the World Cup of Darts title,
most recently twelve months ago. The duo are also widely considered the best pairs team in the darting world and share a close friendship on and off the oche. Whether or not Clayton and Williams will be able to showcase the same level of chemistry remains to be seen for the Welsh team in Germany over the coming days.
It is not known what health problems Price is dealing with. Earlier this year, the Welshman had to skip a week of Premier League Darts play because of a back injury. It is unclear whether this injury is playing up again.
