Jonny Clayton and
Bradley Brooks have moved through to the Last 16 of the 2021
Grand Slam of Darts after victories over Mervyn King and Rusty-Jake Rodriguez respectively in Group B.
Clayton sealed the two legs he needed early on with King from the offset needing to win 5-1 or better in order to have a chance.
This was done with Clayton pouncing on King missing the chance to make it 3-1 and levelling as a result.
King continued to lead going 4-3 up but the match was taken all the way to a decider in which King missed two match darts and Clayton pinned double 12 for a 5-4 win. It was a 99 average and 5/10 on the doubles in the end for Clayton with King producing 101 in defeat as he heads out.
Before that, Brooks continued his brilliant debut campaign at this year's tournament by defeating Rodriguez in a battle of the Development Tour champions.
He began the tie by going 2-1 ahead with a hold and a blockbuster 113 finish to gain control.
It remained close from there but Brooks pinned double one to head one away with Rodriguez unable to produce a 57 checkout.
Again the Austrian missed multiple sets of darts to hold and Brooks took out double six to claim the win and his spot in the next round.
