Clayton through to World Grand Prix final with superb win over Noppert

Jonny Clayton has done the first part in setting up an all-Welsh final at the 2021 World Grand Prix by seeing off Danny Noppert in a 4-1 win.

Clayton produced an excellent display with a 95 average, three 180's and two ton plus checkouts including a high of 112 en route as he ended the run of the Dutchman.

Noppert started off with a hold of throw on double 20. But Clayton came straight back with an 83 checkout.

A 72 checkout saw a first break for 'The Ferret' and a 108 checkout saw Clayton claim the set.

Noppert failed to get off till the fifth dart handing Clayton the initiative on throw but he missed a 68 checkout and the Dutchman replied with a 72 checkout to break.

A 152 at the start of the leg saw Clayton attempt to steal a break back but a 180 saw Noppert en route down to a 44 checkout which he took to go 2-0 up.

A 160 start began for Noppert but he missed 122 on the bull for the set only to return anyway straight for double 17.

He opened up the third set well and looked to be en route to a hold but was punished after squandering darts at doubles with Clayton hitting 90.

Clayton doubled his lead and looked to take the game to Noppert on throw with a 177 to leave 72. A 180 nearly proved too little too late for Noppert but after a squandered 72, he returned for 107.

Clayton missed 60 for the set but Noppert replied by missing two at 77 to make it 2-2 and 'The Ferret' claims the set.

Noppert sealed an opening break in a must win set and he followed that up with a 54 checkout on double 10.

Clayton stopped the set rot of sort by making it 2-1 by Noppert was still throwing for 2-2.

'The Ferret' though pinned a 180 with a third of the match as he made his move towards a finish and a break to throw for a 3-1 lead.

A 160 start began for Noppert on Clayton's throw But Clayton pinned 140 and 136 to leave 32 which he pinned to make it 3-1 in sets.

Three darts went begging for Noppert to hold and Clayton hit a 112 checkout to go 1-0 up with a break.

He got out of jail though with another miscount thinking he going for double eight but he returned for double 13.

Noppert missed 106 for a hold but Clayton returned for double six to claim the match.
