Jonny Clayton won the Davey Dodds Memorial Trophy last Thursday. This event is an exhibition tournament in Newcastle and is named after darter Davey Dodds, who died in 2017.
The field of participants consisted of four top darters and five amateur players. Joe Cullen, Gerwyn Price, Jonny Clayton and John Henderson were the four big names and they all managed to reach the semifinals.
Then in the last four, Henderson was too strong for Price 3-0. Clayton prevented a final spot for Cullen by winning the second semifinal 3-1.
The final proved to be one of high note. Henderson threw an average of 105, but that was not enough to win a leg. Clayton threw 109 average and won the final 3-0.
