Maendl-Lawrance target of ridicule on social media: “Someone should have a word with Liam, it shouldn't take 50 minutes to play eight legs of darts"

In the opening round of the European Darts Matchplay, Marko Kantele was too strong for Liam Maendl-Lawrance in a 6-2 win. The match lasted a whopping fifty minutes.

Both players achieved just over seventy average. There was much talk on social media afterwards about the slow pace of what has been dubbed "the worst match ever." “Maendl-Lawrance v Kantele on now here in Trier. Don’t worry, whatever you’re doing alongside watching it, you’ve got time. I am going to see how War and peace starts………and ends,” tweeted darts commentator Paul Nicholson.

Even the official PDC Twitter account couldn't resist making a joke about the snail's pace of the match by posting, "Blink and you won't miss it!"

On social media, Maendl-Lawrance in particular got wind of the situation. “Someone have a word with Liam, it should not take 50 minutes to play eight legs of darts lol,” said one darts fan.

Another wrote: "People blamed Justin Pipe for being slow, but he was always fast at the oche and also got his darts out quickly. 'LML' is just terrible to watch. A leg shouldn't take more than six minutes on average."
