Clemens comes from the brink to defeat Williams in Ally Pally classic: "3-1 and 2-0 you have nothing to lose"

Having survived a missed match dart from Jim Williams to emerge victorious after one of the matches of the tournament so far at the PDC World Darts Championship, Gabriel Clemens was understandably delighted.

"I am very happy," Clemens told reporters post-match. "Jim Williams, he plays amazing darts, he's brilliant on the doubles and I'm very happy with this win." Despite having missed double 6 for a 4-2 win, with Williams checking out at 65% on his doubles Clemens knew he couldn't afford to allow the Welshman another shot at victory. "I must say, normally Jim makes the double 6 for the sixth set and I'm out."

With the German fans coming over to the Ally Pally in their hundreds to support Germany's number one dart player, the atmosphere inside the arena was electric. "It's amazing when you hear inside the Ally Pally the German songs," Clemens said.

When his back was to the walls at 3-1 down in sets and 2 legs down in the 5th set, Clemens played some of the best darts he's ever thrown on the big stage. Attempting to explain his remarkable comeback, the German Giant put it down to having nothing to lose. "3-1 and 2-0 you have nothing to lose. You can see what pressure I'm under on that bullseye," he says. "Of course then after, you can run, it's great."

In the last 16, Clemens will face off against either Danny Noppert or Alan Soutar as the German Giant looks to seal his spot in the quarter-finals of a tv event for the first time in his career.
