Peter Wright went down 4-1 against Kim Huybrechts in the third round of the PDC
World Darts Championship on Tuesday night. And that may well be called remarkable.
After all, it is only the fifth time that a reigning PDC world champion has fallen before the fourth round (last sixteen). For the last time, we have to go back to 2021, when the same Wright lost 4-3 in the second round to Gabriel Clemens.
Twice Part
In 2014, Phil Taylor went out in the second round against Michael Smith. John Part, like Wright, also appears twice in this remarkable list. In 2009, as reigning world champion, he went down 3-0 immediately in the opening round against Bill Davis. In 2004, Mark Dudbridge beat the Canadian 4-3 in the first round.
