Clemens began proceedings off with a 5-3 win over Ryan Meikle as the German Giant lived up to his favourite tag due mainly to his consistency and form on the ProTour in the past year which has seen him become the German Number Two.
En route, he hit a 93 average with two 180's and 5/14 on the doubles in a polished display. Jelle Klaasen who by virtue of his prowess also went into tonight up there.
He started well also seeing off Gavin 'The Cannon' Carlin in a 5-2 victory which saw 'The Cobra' hit multiple unorthodox finishes including a brilliant 95 which saw 19, D19, D19 akin to an exhibition shot.
As well he hit a 74 checkout to go one away which saw 4, 20, Bullseye and he finished it off with a 47 checkout in 20 darts as he put out an early marker with his doubling being at 71 percent.
Carlin suffered two defeats on the bounce losing out 5-1 to Ryan Meikle. 'The Barber' had two ton plus checkouts including a high of 104 with 45 percent on doubles. The former's shining light was a potential nine-darter attempt in the latter half of the contest but he couldn't recover from a poor visit on the list three darts and the Development Tour standout went onto win from there.
