It was mixed fortunes for Dutch duo Vincent van der Voort and
Danny Noppert to end the opening night of action at the
World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam.
Van der Voort lost to
Matt Campbell with the Canadian ace silencing the home crowd who of course were behind the popular home hero in a 6-3 win with a 95.5 average and 50% on the doubles.
A 97 checkout saw Campbell go 3-2 up and while the holds continued, Campbell pounced on a missed chance at 73 from Van der Voort to hit double 10 and go 5-3 up with a break and one away which proved pivotal.
Pinning double 20 with Van der Voort missing a dart at 110 to seal it, it capped off a fine World Series Finals debut for Campbell who will now face Gerwyn Price tomorrow.
While Noppert on the other hand completed the second round line-up with a 6-4 victory over Simon Whitlock averaging 95 with six 180's and a 170 checkout as 'The Freeze' who had to go through qualifying despite being a current major champion on home soil showing his class.
Whitlock levelled at 2-2 to begin the tie with an 87 checkout before Noppert edged ahead at 4-3 with an 84 checkout which was consolidated with a 170 checkout and despite Whitlock pouncing on missed match darts from Noppert, he missed one dart to send it to a decider and Noppert hit double `12 to seal it.
