Wright scrapes past Sherrock in thrilling tie, Glory for Gates with Petersen win as impressive World Series form continues

After an otherwise poor World Series campaign for Fallon Sherrock, she raised her game as she often does against the big names but fell to Peter Wright in a thrilling first round tie at the World Series of Darts Finals in Amsterdam.

Wright produced a 103.5 average and four 180's as he looked superb on the scoring continuing from his title win in Jena last week but he only just edged through 6-4 due to the prowess on the outer ring from Sherrock who hit 4/4.

This was shown in the opening stages as despite a disparity of sixteen points on the averages, it was locked at 2-2 as Sherrock pinned 87 and led from there at 3-2 with a 73 checkout on the bull.

Wright hit a third 180 and double 20 to square it up at 3-3 with a break but Sherrock kept pace with a 120 checkout at 4-4. Wright went one away though and hit a 76 checkout despite whistling from the crowd to deny Sherrock a chance at 56 for the last leg decider.

While the player who defeated Sherrock in New York in Leonard 'Soldier' Gates who will get multiple big stage opportunities in the coming months with the Grand Slam and World Championship continued his superb World Series form with victory over Devon Petersen.

Despite good scoring at times, the woes continued for Petersen who continues to lack the form of two years ago when he had his breakout year on the tour.

Early on, Gates hit a 120 checkout to move 2-1 up on Petersen but Petersen hit the front at 3-2 on double 20 after 142 was missed by Gates but Gates turned it around again going 5-4 up.

Petersen squandered four darts to send it all the way and Gates got over the line to set up a tie with James Wade.
