Jonny Clayton has ended the run of rising sensation Josh Rock in a clinical display from 'The Ferret' who went off as the outsider despite being a multiple major champion and Premier League player as has been the hype around the Northern Irishman.

Clayton was clinical with a 97 average, eight 180's and two ton plus checkouts in 122 and 104 and he will now face Kim Huybrechts or Dimitri van den Bergh. He joins his compatriot Gerwyn Price in the latter stages.

Rock doubled his lead with a 76 checkout early on. He sealed the sweep on double five with a 109 average. A 171 and double 20 saw Rock lead in the second set.

Clayton missed 161 but Rock missed double eight to break and ‘The Ferret’ stopped the rot. Doubling errors continued to creep in and Clayton broke with a 58 checkout to go 2-1 up.

He went five darts into a nine-dart finish and finished with an 11-darter on double 16 for 1-1 in sets. Both held throw with Rock hitting a 76 checkout but Clayton produced a superb 104 checkout on the bull to seal the set at 2-1 going 18-Double 18-Bull.

Rock swept to a 2-0 lead with an 80 checkout but Clayton hit back with an 86 checkout for an 11-darter to go 2-1 down. Rock missed 104 on double 20 and Clayton returned for 2-2 hitting an 84 checkout on double 12.

Rock missed 116 on double 20 but returned for three more missed darts for the set and Clayton returned to bust 79. This allowed Rock to hit double five.

Another last leg decider was set with Clayton having the darts. He drifted into double seven for the set off 62 and Rock hit double six for the set.

Clayton missed a dart to break off 64 and Rock hit double 20 to hold. Clayton held on double 12 and hit 122 with Rock waiting to pounce in order to break and go one away from 3-3 in sets.

Clayton punished a dart to break on double five. Rock missed three darts to hold and Clayton hit double 18 to go one away. Rock missed 121 on the bull and Clayton took aim at 48 sealing it on double 16.
